January's PE Classes have been dodging raindrops. We are thankful for the MPR for most of our activities.
The Explorers are beginning to work on physical fitness testing. Students have been learning and practicing the different fitness expectations. They will select a target goal and work towards earning either The President's Award, The National Award, or the Fitness Award. You will find more information at the website posted on this blog.
The primary classes learned a singing game this week: "Run Children Run." The game and song depict the lives of children who belonged to plantation owners and how they found their own way to play.
Primary classes also "tested" a variety of objects and rated how easy or difficult they were to toss and catch. They graphed their assessments as a class, using the objects tested and then gathered and discussed information generated by their graphs. The items tested were: a 7" Gator Skin Ball, a bean bag, a 3" nylon ball and a wacky noodle.
The Super Stars have done a variety of push-ups over the last few months. They began the year with "Chicken Pushups." Each month they take on another: Ghost Push-Ups, Turkey and Santa Push-Ups. Finding a push-up for January was a puzzle until one child suggested a "Blowing" push up. What followed was a Raspberry Push-Up that left all of us laughing.
